Lonley alien stumbles onto ancient ruins

I put a few hours into this draft this morning and I’m extremely pleased with where this is headed. Added textures, lava, lightning bugs and ruins to the draft. Keeping in mind that the world will be huge, the bugs congregate around any important items, relics, artifacts, ruins, etc so that the player is much less likely to miss out on these mysterious elements of the game play. I won’t go into the various purposes of gems, artifacts, etc but they will have a use to the player that should boost the enjoyment of the game.

Comparing this to the previous shot I feel the textures go a very long way to making the environment more engaging and enigmatic. I’ve been playing ambient cave sounds while designing this, trying to push the atmosphere into a creepy and enchanting, but not too threatening mood.
